Privacy Policy
Pilcrow does not collect any data about you.
Effective October 20, 2026 · Applies to Pilcrow for macOS, published by Kyle Percifield (Onyx Apps)
The short version
Pilcrow has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no tracking of any kind. The developer does not receive your notes or any information about how you use the app.
Your notes
Everything you write in Pilcrow is stored on your Mac, inside Pilcrow’s app folder. It is never sent to the developer or to any third party by Pilcrow.
Backups and exports
Pilcrow saves a daily backup snapshot of your notes on your Mac. If you choose a different backup folder in Settings, snapshots are written there instead. If that folder is in iCloud Drive or another cloud service, those files are stored and synced by that service under its own privacy policy, not by Pilcrow. PDFs and Markdown exports are saved only where you choose to save them.
Network use
Pilcrow does not connect to any server operated by the developer. The only time it uses the network is when a note you wrote contains an image linked from a web address; displaying that image loads it from the website that hosts it, as any web page would.
Data shared with the developer
None. If you email support, the developer receives only what you choose to include in your message and uses it solely to reply to you.
Apple
When you download Pilcrow from the Mac App Store, Apple handles the purchase and may provide the developer with aggregate, anonymized sales and usage statistics under Apple’s own terms. The developer cannot use these to identify you.
Children
Pilcrow collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. A change that would collect any data would be stated clearly here and in the app’s release notes.
